"On Falling In Love With Football"
It started with my older brother playing. I went to his games because I was too young to stay home alone. Then my mom asked me if I wanted to play, I said yes because I thought I had to. But I stayed in love with football because of the communities, the people you meet and the friends you make. It's much bigger than the sport itself.
"On Becoming Canada's Photographer"
I started shooting for fun and then I realized there was a need. Social media & Instagram were becoming a thing. People were starting to post more and wanted good photos. I come from a creative family, so I was able to mix my love of the sport and the creative side and do something with that. It’s a mix of a lot of work, a lot of sacrifices, and a touch of luck. And then the stars need to align.
"On The Top 3 Moments She's Photographed"
"The Goat"
My first camp with the women’s national team was in France. We were doing a media day, and there just happened to be goats at this little farm. Jessie Fleming gave me the idea of taking a photo of one of the goats with Sinc, and I just went with it. It was a reminder that sometimes you just have to be adaptable and recognize an opportunity when it presents itself. That photo is forever going to be an iconic one for me.
"Steph"
One thing about being a team photographer is that you build relationships with the players; you get to know them and you care about them. For me, that’s a big part of why I want to capture those perfect moments, I want to help tell their stories in a way that feels true to who they are. When we played that Round of 16 match against South Africa and Steph scored that winning goal, the moment itself made me emotional. But the photo I’ll remember most from that game is actually one from the locker room, when he sat down and just let it all sink in. Steph is so deserving of that moment, and I’m grateful I got to capture it.
"CMNTxUCL"
And then, getting to shoot the Champions League in Munich has to be up there as well. It had always been a bucket-list moment for me, you know? Hearing that song when the players walk out, having Harry Kane celebrate a goal right in front of me, and having two Canadian players I know involved in that game made it even more special. It was one of those nights that reminded me that sometimes, the things you dream about really can come true.
"On Her Journey To The World Cup"
I was in Montreal working with Sporting Montreal when they went to the Canadian Championship and I went with them to shoot. There I met Brad, who used to work for Canada Soccer. I think he was impressed with my work ethic because I was doing a lot while covering the team alone. He ended up offering me some contracted work for Canada Soccer, doing French coverage on Twitter. At the end of 2021 there was a job opening in the communcations department. I didn’t think the job was the right fit for me, but I wanted a foot in the door. I didn’t get the job, thank God for that.
But a few months later they needed someone to do contracted work with the youth national teams. It was more in my field doing content and photos. I didn’t have a passport. I hadn’t traveled before. I got my passport February 18. I was leaving the end of February to the Dominican Republic with the U-20’s so we had to rush it. That camp I worked with Jade Rose, Olivia Smith, and some others who are now with the senior team. Then I did all of 2022 with the youth team. In 2023, I got a call “the women’s team is going to France, do you want to go?” I was like, absolutely. They were preparing for the World Cup in Australia. So I went to France, and then went to the World Cup. 2026 wasn’t my first World Cup, which people forget. It was my second. At the end of the year, I was offered the opportunity to work with the men’s team too, and without a doubt, I said yes. Then in 2024 they offered me a full-time job.
"On Shooting a Match"
There's two ways for me to shoot a game.
The first way is the more organized where I have a shot list. There are specific moments I need to take photos, upload, and make sure we can post. I get to the stadium before the team because I always get there as early as possible. Then I shoot the locker room, the team’s arrival and warm-up. I also make sure to keep an eye out for special moments. For example, the first World Cup game in Toronto. I turn around and see Milan [Borjan] hugging Max on the sideline. The guy who used to be number one with the guy who was just named number one. It’s as if he’s saying, this is your time now. These are moments you can’t plan for. So, I have my checklist. Hopefully I don’t miss any goal celebration. That is top of the list whenever it happens. And then just stay ready for whatever you think can be good content.
But second, If I’m shooting a game just for fun, which I still do all the time, I look for more creative stuff I can do, recently that’s been shooting film.
"On What Makes A Photo Beautiful"
Everything can be art depending on the way you see it. It’s really hard to pinpoint what makes a beautiful photo. The moment can be so much more powerful than just the picture. But then again, a good celebration. Anything that’s emotional. Anything that tells a story is a good picture.
"On The Impact She Wants To Make"
I have two answers. I have an answer as me, and one as a photographer. For myself, I hope I show people that you can actually achieve your dream. That when people see my journey, they look at it and say, if she’s able to do it, I can do it too. I hope to be an example that if you work hard and you’re ready when your opportunity comes, you can be successful. Whatever success looks like to you. The second would be that through the content I create with the players on both national teams, I’m able to show the fans how amazing the humans beyond the footballers are. Because they’re much more than just players for the national team. They’re such good people.
"On What She Wants People to Feel From Her Photos"
Hopefully my work speaks to people. All the moments I capture, whatever they meant for me, I want it to mean something for them too. As if we’re sharing the moment together. I also want people to feel like it comes from a good place. From passion for photography, and love for the beautiful game.
